There is a library of DVDs, a CD player with a collection of CDs, books about Yosemite Park and some fiction, and flyers for local attractions. For things to do during the different seasons please scroll down to the bottom of this page. More things to see and do in the area: The west entrance of Yosemite Park is only 36 miles from the vacation home and is the closest (only 6 miles) to the loop road of Yosemite Valley, the park's main attraction. (The Yosemite Valley is much further from all other park entrances.) You’ll enjoy the scenic drive along Hwy 140 bordered by the Merced River. After 18 miles you’ll see the Merced River Recreation Area at Briceburg. It has sandy beaches where you can have a family picnic, or stop to dip into the river on the way back from the park to cool off on a hot summer day. This area is also great for fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing. For the more adventurous among you, rent a kayak or take a white water rafting trip with one of the commercial rafting companies that provide trips down portions of the river. Guests can also take Hwy 49 to Hwy 41 to drive through Yosemite's south entrance - a 41 mile drive from the vacation home. Traveling in that direction you can visit Bass Lake for swimming, boat rentals, beaches and restaurants. Also along Hwy 41, the historic Sugar Pine Railroad takes guests on a 4-mile narrated historical railway adventure through a scenic fir and pine forest pulled by a steam locomotive traversing original logging railbeds restored from the turn of the century. They also offer gold panning for the entire family. (Operates March - Oct.) Another attraction is Sierra Vista Scenic Byway which you don’t want to miss. You’ll see giant sequoia groves, alpine lakes and meadows, rock formations, wildflower fields and some of the most beautiful views of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Mariposa has many restaurants. Pioneer Market is the local grocery store. You'll also enjoy the local antique shops, gift shops and art galleries, some of which promote local artists. SPRING is the best time to see waterfalls at their peak in Yosemite Park. The snow remaining in the highest elevations melts and flows into streams that feed the waterfalls. Other than an occasional rain, you'll find very pleasant weather and smaller crowds for hiking. Some higher elevation hikes may be closed until late spring. This is a great time to raft the Wild and Scenic Merced River, or take amazing wildflower hikes in the Merced River Canyon or Hite's Cove, outside the park (March-May). SUMMER offers months of dry, warm, sunny weather. All hiking trails are open throughout the park. The high elevation roads to Glacier Point and Tioga Pass are open. This is a good time for horseback riding, morning hiking, bicycling, and even Merced River swimming in Yosemite and Briceberg Canyon. Bass Lake is another great place for swimming, boating and hiking. (Boat rentals available). The Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad is a fun family experience. AUTUMN is a wonderful time to hike in Yosemite! The gorgeous fall colors last for months. Cooler but comfortable weather and smaller crowds make this time of year special and invigorating! Some waterfalls have diminished flows, but Vernal and Nevada Falls are still spectacular! Plenty of sunshine despite an occasional rain. Family fun at the 4-day County Fair at the Mariposa Fair Grounds over Labor Day weekend. Amazing natural wonders at the CA State Mining and Mineral Museum. WINTER When snow begins to fall in Yosemite ice-skating, downhill skiing, and snowshoeing (especially in the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias) are special treats (rentals available). The mountains glisten in the sun. Hiking paths in Yosemite Valley are plowed and often free of snow. Make a snowman or go sledding. Horse-drawn sleigh rides or hayrides available at Christmas just outside the park. You’ll enjoy the brisk but varying weather if you dress in layers. Days are often clear, even in winter. In Mariposa, at 2,000 ft. elevation, snow is infrequent and melts, but if you want snow you can always find it at some elevation in Yosemite Park. Bring tire chains, which you are required to carry in your car when visiting the park. If you are looking for an adventurous vacation in a beautiful natural area, with gorgeous mountain views and easy access to Yosemite Park, you are sure to enjoy your stay at Deer Ridge Vacation Home! "Governor Newsom's Executive Order N-33-20, and associated guidance of the California Public Health Offer, continue to apply statewide. These advise Californians to avoid traveling long distances for vacations or pleasure as much as possible. This is to slow the spread of the corona virus. Do not travel if you are sick, or if someone in your household has had corona virus in the last two weeks. Do not travel with someone who is sick."

Do not disturb tenants during your stay. Deer Ridge vacation rental is on a 5+ acre property. We utilize well water, septic tank, propane and solar power. Local Attractions Yosemite's west entrance via Hwy. 140, is only 36 miles away. This scenic highway, year round highway from Mariposa, running through the Merced River gorge, is the shortest route to the loop road in Yosemite Valley (only 6 miles from the west entrance) when compared to the routes from the other major gateway towns such as Oakhurst and Groveland. After 18 miles you'll see the Merced River Recreation Area at Briceburg. It has sandy beaches where you can have a family picnic, or stop to dip into the river on the way back from Yosemite Park to cool off on a hot summer day. This area is also great for fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing. To get to Yosemite’s south entrance, guests can also take Hwy 49 to Hwy 41. This is approx. a 45 mile drive from the vacation home. Traveling in that direction you can visit Bass Lake with its water sports, beaches and restaurants. The historic Sugar Pine Railroad takes guests on a 4-mile adventure through a scenic fir and pine forest. Kayak / white water rafting - For the more adventurous among you, rent a kayak or take a white water rafting trip with one of the commercial rafting companies that provide trips down portions of the Merced River. Mariposa Downtown for excellent dining options and strolls along the charming downtown dotted with boutique shops is a short 5 min drive from the vacation home. There are plenty of other interesting and fun things to see and do around the charming town of Mariposa, such as visiting the local museums that reveal the rich history of the pioneer gold-rush days of the late 1800s. Or spend an afternoon in the Mariposa County Park, where you'll also find tennis courts, skateboard ramps, picnic tables, and a playground. Sequoia National Park and King's Canyon National Park are even close enough for a day-trip. Family fun at the Butterfly Festival in Mariposa (first weekend in May) or try to win the $10,000 prize at the Annual Fishing Derby at Bass Lake (first weekend in May). Ride in open railroad cars, pulled along historic tracks through a beautiful forest, by a steam locomotive. Enjoy musical events on weekend evenings in the Art Park in Mariposa. Enjoy the beautiful greening foothills at one of the local ziplines. Family fun at the 4-day County Fair at the Mariposa Co. Fair Grounds over Labor Day weekend. Amazing natural wonders at the CA State Mining and Mineral Museum. WINTER When snow begins to fall in Yosemite ice-skating, downhill skiing, and snowshoeing (especially in the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias) are special treats. (Rentals available.) The mountains glisten in the sun. Bring tire chains or 4WD, but chains aren't often needed unless driving higher than Yosemite Valley.

Lodge (4700 sq. ft.) in ,
13 miles from Eastman Lake
Thank YOU for all the early booking specials. August is booking up and I've decided to not increase the price this year. (Your Welcome! Thank ALL my wonderful guests for respecting this beautiful estate. What a pleasure to have them!!) This estate is priced WAY BELOW several close-by rentals! I'm less than a hotel, king beds, private Suites and bathrooms. Savings increase when you eat, drink, and be merry in total privacy! Warm and Wonderful is a lodge-type house has three private suites (5 bedroom/4bath) and two have private bathrooms. It is large (almost 5,000 sq ft) spread out and your can socialize in vaulted ceiling rooms, eat on the patios, or private in your suites. Several wrap around porches, pool area is huge, big jacuzzi, and waterfall is almost one story high. The reviews say it all. Welcome Welcome Be MOST Welcome. Enjoy Yosemite by day, and this beautiful equestrian estate to relax and chill with your group when it's time to eat, rest, play in the waterfall, huge pool and jacuzzi, play baseball in your meadow, basketball in the parking lot, or pan for gold close by. POPULAR HWY 41 SOUTH GATE, CLOSE TO ATTRACTIONS. MANY ACCOMMODATIONS ARE MUCH FURTHER AWAY THAN OAKHURST, BASS LAKE, AND AHWAHNEE. AREA IS CENTRAL TO ALL ACTIVITIES, DINING, GROCERIES, HIKES, RAILROAD, HORSEBACK RIDING, ETC. People call the Ahwahnee Riverbend Area spectacular (it is), I call it Shangri-La. My family and I chose these beautiful mountain meadows for the weather and location. Our meadow is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It really is amazing and truly Warm and Wonderful. Check the reviews! All 5 STAR!! Less than 5 miles from Oakhurst and 15 minutes from Beautiful Bass Lake, too! Wait ‘til you see the house, check out the photos! There are private electric gates and a Redwood tree lined driveway entrance and separate exit for trucks, boats, and trailers. This house is 4800 sq ft (6 1/2 acres) of beautiful. The kitchen is really big with lovely grey quartzite countertops and easy to use appliances and ample counter space to cook. The laundry room is big with washer, dryer and plenty of room for food in the walk-in pantry. As you see from the reviews, it is well stocked with many staples you will not have to buy. The house has two full suites (one Cal King, one Queen) with private entrance bathrooms (one suite can have TWO private entrance bathrooms) and both have private entrance/exit from the house. Additional Suite is two connected bedrooms, one has double door to patio, porch swing and view of pasture #5. The Master Suite has 3 exits, couch, big TV, Netflix and huge Master Bath also with private exit.. The Queen Suite has bathroom and exit to the backyard and pool. The Second King has view of front meadow, window seat, and double door to third King. The third King has a lovely view of the meadows (double door, lockable to second King w/Italian Leather fold out single bed Excellent mattress!) and bathroom is across the hall (also has private entrance/exit to patio with cedar swing). There is an additional queen and standard double bed that sleeps two kids comfortably, with a private entrance/exit from the house. PRICING at $400 per night is for the more common groups of EIGHT but capacity at this time is TWELVE people an extra baby or two is always welcome to a maximum of 14. We have five bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, all have double sinks but one. The Ahwahnee Riverbend area is a private pocket of six estates on the back of hiking and next to the Fresno River. Secluded but accessible. I've been told the next nicest place in this whole area is (as of '19) double the cost. Yes, it is nicer...but TWICE the cost? Look at the reviews. It's a very clean spread out ranch style estate with privacy for everyone or gatherings in the big kitchen, porches, pool, and non intrusive. Kids think it is puppy heaven and it is. There are two flat screen TV’s (all have DVD), in the Master Suite and den really big (45"”). You have an extensive library of movies and Netflix. If you need our high speed Internet, that is OK, Wifi throughout the estate all the way to the pool. By-the-way, I do not charge to heat the jacuzzi in the winter. It's big, it's expensive (propane) but it is yours to use and heats really fast. If it is warm during the day it is quite lovely with the waterfall going. If you calculate roof size of house, barn, horse shelters, pool house, garage, breezeways, patio, porches (all covered), two well houses (plenty of water) there’s 10,000 sq ft of Malibu Blue roof on this lovely ranch style estate. The pool is quite large, about 40,000 gal and Jacuzzi (heats up fast) is about 450 gal. The natural rock waterfall is almost one story high. The deck around the pool has plenty of room for the four umbrellas and seating. One huge umbrella partially covers the pool for sun-sensitive guests. The Jacuzzi has a (November to March only) fire pit (propane) that is easy to use and wonderful to sit and talk. Warm and Wonderful motto is ‘Sit Long, Talk Much’. We are less than five miles from a rockin’ mountain village with 20 great restaurants, a full multi screen cinema, microbrewery, and Raley’s grocery; famous for quality markets in Bel Aire and Knob Hill. There are numerous art galleries, retail stores, and farmer’s markets. We are ½ mile from Hwy 49 and our area is very accessible. Our little paradise sits almost in the middle of the front (Oakhurst) and back (Mariposa) gates to Yosemite National Park. Yosemite is too beautiful for words. You can ride a narrow gage logging train, see Glacier Point, Bridleveil Falls, or just wander the glories of nature. Now THAT is truly spectacular. If you like water sports, 12 miles away you can play at Bass Lake (four more large lakes are less than an hour away) in season waterskiing, boating, fishing (rod + fly) and a classy restaurant and bar with patio overlooking the lake and boat dock. The lake is beautiful because spring rain makes it clean, crisp, and clear. Just 1 ½ miles north on Hwy 49 is the hottest Cowboy bar in two counties with dancing, big screen TV for sports, great food and tons of local ‘color’. We are less than a mile from ‘Open Range’ where cattle and their calves graze along the road and we have a working cattle ranch two miles away where you can watch real cowboys (and cowgirls) sort and rope cattle. You can pan for gold (good luck with that) a half mile away at a secluded riverside park. We’re walking distance from a darling nine hole golf course with restaurant, bar, and available for special events; as is the Golf Course. The meadows in this area are lovely and perfect for all season activities as you see from the photos of the estate. SO MUCH TO DO, YOU WILL LOVE IT!! If you are road weary travelers, couples wishing an exclusive get-away (rarely see neighbors, they are some distance away), best friends that just want to ‘chill’, or crave to wander the mountains with your equine pet (I have maps)—This is the place for you. Summer is fun and winter is exciting here at Ahwahnee Riverbend. Snow at 2000 feet elevation usually only lasts until 10am when the sun comes out, which makes travel much easier. But no worries! There is usually plenty of snow in the ‘Snow Play’ area up in the Nat’l Forest, 12 miles up the mountain. Badger Pass is the spot and cross country is everywhere you hike in the summer! People love to snow shoe, sleigh ride, cross-country and sled. You can trail ride all year long, summer in the mountains, winter down on the flats. You can 4-wheel drive, Yosemite Zip, horseback ride, hike, bike, ride the railroad, work cattle, ski (both kinds), swim, sightsee, shop, browse art galleries, eat, play, and love. This is my home. I left LA, found Ahwahnee and never looked back. One of my best friends already bought a place here, another best buddy is looking for property, and two of my Sisters have estates nearby. What does that tell you? I love it, horses love it, dogs love it, kids love it, EVERYBODY loves it, you will, too. This is a beautiful area and a super place to stay. Check the reviews!! Warmest regards, Louisa yes fyi, if you get all the way down to here, I applaud you. The neighbors on several sides have dinky everything at 25% more per night. Warm and Wonderful is a big beautiful place for less than a hotel. Lastly, everyone tells me the next nicest place is $900!! a night. P.S.-It IS nicer, but double the cost? AND not as accessible. Nothing to worry about, you decide.

Riverfront retreat with swimming pool, granite waterfall, spa, pool table, game room, ping-pong, views, fishing, golf, 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, large stainless steel kitchen, 3 fireplaces, outdoor grill, fabulous views, pines, oaks, garden, Indian grinding stones, 5 acres to roam, outdoor living & dining, large great room, open dining room kitchen, minutes to Yosemite, minutes to Bass Lake, panning for gold, hawks, red-wing blackbirds, blue-heron, ducks, jays, swallows, etc. Enjoy the outdoors from inside or outside this one level, 3000 sq. ft. beautiful home, with 500+ feet or riverfront. The location is ideal. Along a river bend, with mountain views, graceful trees, spectacular waterfall swimming pool/spa and much, much more. The challenge with this property will be leaving it! At the entryway, and around the property, are enormous granite rock outcroppings. The home has accents inside and out of granite stones, a redwood paneled master bath, oak mantels, all harvested from the property. The polished concrete floors keep the home cool in the hot summer, and help maintain the warmth in the cold winter months. The ceilings are beamed and finished in pine. Located minutes from Yosemite, Bass Lake, and Oakhurst. Outside living areas include outdoor dining table and comfy chairs, lounges around the pool, and Adirondack chairs at the river. Cook outside on the outdoor grill or cook up a storm in the stainless steel kitchen. Appliances include Viking induction stove, Thermador convection ovens, and more. Sit under the granite rock waterfall in the built-in pool ledge, or jump off a 3' rock into the pool. Of course, you could swim a lap or float in the pool as you soak in the sun. Dip your toes in the river & watch the red-tail hawks glide between trees. Hang-out in your chair until sunset & watch a deer, rabbit or possibly raccoon come to the river. After you’ve hiked Yosemite park, return home & soak your muscles in the ground level round jetted spa next to the swimming pool. Stroll to the end of the property, walk on the golf course, & shag a couple of lost golf balls on your way. Play a round of golf, or enjoy a sandwich at the rustic clubhouse, which is also adorned in granite & pine decor. Head on back to the river, grab a volleyball & couple of friends & hit the ball around the sandy beach volleyball court. Feel the cool sand between your toes. Maybe perch yourself on a granite rock & reflect on when Miwok Indians used the grinding stones to make meal, or give it a try yourself. Set up the croquet set & play a round with your mates. The river is more like a creek in August & September, so there is a lot more sandy area to explore. Some say there’s gold in that river. So, try your luck at panning for some gold right out your door. Maybe a nice nugget for your jewelry box, or a couple flakes as a memento of your trip. Of course, we are not making any promises and do be careful of all the fools gold in the river! If the season's right, pick some fruit out of the trees, or berries. Cut a sprig of rosemary, an iris, rose, lavender, or wild-flower or two for the bud vase in the bathroom or kitchen. Before you head home, or on to your next destination, give the laundry room a work out and pack your bags with clean clothes. Of course, if you want to extend that vacation feeling, there is a local cleaner close by. If you have been able to resist the tire swing, take a spin or two before you leave. Maybe your last night could be spent sleeping in the hammock in the trees. Sign the guest book, and we’ll keep a light on for your next visit. *** PLEASE NOTE: RATE SHOWN ABOVE ON THE RIGHT IS FOR UP TO 6 GUESTS. THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL GUEST FEE AFTER 6 PEOPLE. "Regardless of how stressed one may be, if they cannot get their mind in a better place sitting out on your deck and listening to nature, they need professional help." The full-size Spa is transcendent, it is TOTALLY private & sunken so is easy to get in and out of, EXCEPTIONALLY well-kept, available ALL year long and is incredibly inviting... While just 10 or so steps from the living room door, this Hot Tub is unreal, decadently perched over the creek and under the wide-open, star-studded sky. A plethora of outdoor furniture, a vine covered trellis, full feeders that attract a wide variety of birds, a clean Gas Grill and an abundance of flowering pots and native plants that surround you. We do have two CATS on the property, a crucial presence in the mountains for the the purpose of critter control, they are NOT allowed in the house but please, be aware, they are there. PLEASE NOTE: these cats are essential for rodent control, they are savvy, for sure but if you’re traveling with a DOG that is CAT AGGRESSIVE, please, book another place. ** LOCATION ** Why stay in Mariposa as opposed to 'IN' the park?? Check the LOCATION 'in Yosemite'! Fish Camp and Wawona require nearly the same travel time to Yosemite Valley as does Mariposa but Hwy 140 from Mariposa allows for faster travel year-round (it's 25-35 mph. 'inside' Yosemite, not so on Hwy 140), and FAR safer travel in the winter months (this Hwy being the ONLY 'All-Weather' highway, remaining open during all four seasons). PRIVACY is another reason, 'in Yosemite' also tends to mean 'in a development', check on NEIGHBOR PROXIMITY, expected NOISE levels and PARKING access, our Mariposa places are all PRIVATE, secluded, QUIET and have plenty of convenient parking. ACCESS TO TOWN, make sure you won't be wanting the convenience of being five to ten minutes from all that our quaint, historic town has to offer if you do decide to stay 'inside Yosemite', and be prepared to plan accordingly... access to town from SierraScape is a snap! And finally, COST... We simply offer more, for less ;-). * 4 hours from Los Angeles * 3 hours from the Monterey/Carmel By The Sea area *2.5 hours from the Greater SF Bay Area/Oakland, San Francisco and Sacramento International Airports. * 1 hour from Fresno International Airport **40 minutes from Yosemite National Park (via Hwy 140, and the drive is magnificent) **55 minutes to YOSEMITE VALLEY (approx.) via the the Hwy 140, ARCH ROCK ENTRANCE **90 minutes to Badger Pass Ski Resort **50 min to Yosemite's South Entrance, (GLACIER POINT, Wawona, GIANT SEQUOIAS etc.) **10 min to town (Mariposa), 25 min to Oakhurst, 35 min to Bass Lake SierraScape sits well off Hwy 49 just nine miles south of the town of Mariposa and is ideally located between two different entrances to Yosemite National Park. These two entrance routes (via HWY 41 or HWY 140) offer myriad activities and attractions along the way to the park. HWY 140, the only “all weather highway”, winds through the Scenic Merced River Canyon and takes you directly into Yosemite Valley, through the “Arch Rock” entrance. The Merced River Rec Area at Briceburg is just a 14 mile drive & has small, private sandy beaches just perfect for picnics, wading, and summertime swimming. The river is also great for fishing & hiking and for the even more adventurous, white-water rafting. Traveling in the other direction, up HWY 41 outside of Oakhurst will lead you to the south entrance into Yosemite where you’ll find the world famous Mariposa Grove’s GIANT SEQUOIAS, GLACIER POINT, BADGER PASS SKI Area and of course beautiful BASS LAKE with its water sports, beaches and restaurants. In addition, there are some fantastic hiking trails, many that welcome dogs, and the historic Sugar Pine Railroad, really fun! ** PLEASE NOTE: 'INSTANT QUOTES' ARE ESTIMATES ONLY - SOME ADDITIONAL COSTS NOT INCLUDED IN QUOTE ARE CLEARLY DETAILED WITHIN THE NOTES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RATES section. Some of our cleaning, pet and additional guest fees do vary so are not always able to be included in this automated system, please refer to notes, or simply email or call us for a prompt, and accurate quote.

You will be perfectly situated halfway between both Yosemite entrances – so you can experience the unique beauty of each! Peace and quiet are the best things you’ll notice when you stay at Valerian Retreat. It is set back just one mile off the main route 49, near the historic old gold mining town of Mariposa (www.yosemite.com/things-to-do) and is half way between two entrances to Yosemite Park. You’ll want to sample both easy but different drives into Yosemite - either via the west entrance for easy winter access with HWY 140 along the valley floor beside the Merced River or via the south entrance with HWY 41 through the Sierra mountains. Our retreat is a great place to retreat to after a busy day with the crowds of summer in Yosemite. The cabin is set back along a charming winding driveway on five quiet acres with nothing to hear but the birds and the breeze through the large oak trees that make for special shade. (Yet, you have the best of both worlds, because a convenience store, great little restaurant and gas station are just a mile away. You might want to ask how far other private rustic cabins are from picking up that quart of milk. :-) The cabin is also the perfect hideaway in the fall, winter and spring. When it snows, the property, with its special setting, is usually covered with only a lighter layer of snow allowing easier access, while still providing our guests with that inviting and beautiful snowscape. If you need more space for a family reunion or get together of friends, you can have a 40 acre property with the 3 bedroom Cottage Retreat - winner of over 110 Five Star reviews and the remarkable 2 bedroom Log House Retreat - with over 75 Five Star reviews (bit.ly/YosemiteRusticLuxuryRetreats). Come and visit! You won’t want to leave. Valerian Retreat is a great starting location for day trips to many points of interest: To Yosemite through west entrance – Go north on route 49 to reach the arch rock highway 140 entrance that takes you through the historic town of Mariposa and along the valley floor of the scenic Merced River canyon. It is a beautiful drive which will take you about 45 minutes to an hour to reach the park. There are many places along the road to stop and enjoy the wild and scenic river. This area is known for spectacular wild flower viewing. To Yosemite through south entrance – Go south on route 49 to reach Oakhurst - a larger town with many services, dining and shopping options. In Oakhurst, you will turn left onto highway 41 east to wind your way up the mountain into Yosemite Park through the quaint little villages of Fish Camp and Wawona – both places of many interests. Near Wawona is the must see Mariposa Grove of giant redwoods. As you drive further toward Yosemite just after the tunnel, be sure to pull off to see the spectacular view of the Yosemite valley from above. • Bass lake is located fifteen minutes from Oakhurst. It is a hopping place during warm weather for water sports and just catching some sun and a picnic for the day. Bass lake offers water sports rentals, shops, casual as well as fine dining options. 'Ducey's on the Lake' is a favorite restaurant. • There are 3 local golf courses just minutes away: Sierra Meadows, River Creek and Wawona; the latter is just inside Yosemite. • During the winter months you can travel to Badger Pass to enjoy downhill and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. • Many of the communities have many other activities throughout the year! On local websites you can find events like festivals, the arts and wineries to explore. Mariposa has a zip line and river rafting in the summer, as well as horseback riding on forested trails. • Mariposa has its own airport just 10 minutes from town and 20 minutes from the cabin. Car rentals are available at the airport with advance reservations. • Fresno international Airport is about 1 hour and 15 minute drive to the cabin. Valerian Retreat is owned by Cottage Retreats LLC.
